Each month, we feature an interview with a Bright Star World Dance student, who shares with us their own unique experiences in dance.
Student Spotlight Interview: Jewel R. – Adult Ballet Student
Rosa Noreen’s “Ballet Basics for Adults” Class, Tuesdays 5:30 PM, Sundays 9:30 AM
Q: What do you study at Bright Star?
A. I study ballet. Rosa is my teacher.
Q: What drew you to Bright Star?
A. A friend recommended Rosa as a great adult-ballet teacher.
I wanted someone who would help me protect my body, and not just require things for appearance sake.
Q: What do you enjoy about your teacher’s class?
A. Learning to dance all the way through and out my toes and finger tips. That everything is beautiful (or trying to be 😆).
Q: How did dance come into your life?
A. Long story short, my parents do ballroom dancing. I wanted to promote more things between us that we could share (since we cannot discuss religion or politics).
I began asking people if they knew any dance steps, I found Argentine Tango at Maine Ballroom Dance right off the bat and was hooked!
So, not having any other dance in my background, I have started ballet classes with Rosa at Bright Star to help improve my over-all understanding of movement, balance and body-awareness.
I love dancing! I’m so lucky to have found it at all!
Q: From your experience, what would be helpful for a new dance student to know?
A. That they should just put it all out there and have fun! Chase your passion and self-expression down like you don’t have another day to waste!
